A brief summary of Industrial Revolution 4.0

We start with the 1st industrial revolution, which is powered by steam, the 2nd industrial revolution powered with electricity, automation and machinery is the 3rd industrial revolution, and at last, the 4th industrial revolution is being shaped by intelligent computers. 


Many technologies are being upgraded and improved as time goes on. Industrial revolution 4.0 includes technology such as, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and our main topic cloud computing.


What is cloud computing?


Cloud computing is a technology that allows you to run something simply with the internet. When you’re using cloud computing, you’re accessing remote servers that are hosted by powerful mainframe computers located in a large data/server room. In simpler terms, you’re running a software with the internet while a computer with powerful hardware will do all the work for running the software.



How does this relate to gaming?

As stated above, cloud computing allows us to run a software only with the internet while another computer does all the rendering and running. We can apply this to video games. It allows us to run games remotely with the internet while another computer does all the rendering process of the game.


Benefits of cloud gaming

We refer cloud computing as cloud gaming in the gaming scene. The introduction of cloud gaming changes the industry by allowing players to play games directly with remote servers. Players can enjoy gaming without needing to download and install on their devices. Instead, players can stream their games like streaming a video.


Cloud gaming introduces many benefits to gamers. Gamers with low-end devices can now play heavy games simply with internet access. Gamers that are running low on storage can play the game without needing to download the game. It expands gaming access to those who can’t afford expensive powerful devices. 


Challenges of cloud gaming

While cloud gaming expands the access of video games for more people, it’s still not free from problems. Cloud gaming heavily relies on internet connection, a stable internet is required in order to run a game smoothly. A slight internet speed change can heavily affect the game’s performance. Even with a good connection, sometimes input can be registered a bit late which results in delayed input while gaming. 


Server hardware heavily plays into cloud gaming as it allows you to run the games in the first place. The server requires a good connection plus hardwares. With the servers handling many connections, it may not guarantee a smooth gaming experience even though you have good internet. 


How can cloud gaming change the industry for the future?

Cloud gaming technology is already great for the industry as it reduces the entry bar for people to play heavy games without requiring a beefy device. Because of that, cloud gaming is a good way to play games for the future. It offers many advantages, it’s not just made for people with low-end devices. It also includes players with good devices since its flexibility and accessibility. 


Though cloud gaming is not as popular as the usual way to play games, it has the potential to be a great alternative to playing games in the future. Just imagine only needing a stable wifi connection to play a game without needing to meet the hardware requirement. Playing a game without needing to wait to install the files. If utilized properly, cloud gaming can be a great accessibility for players to play video games. 


 Conclusion

Cloud gaming is a great way to make games accessible for those who lack the requirement to meet hardware standards. Not only that, it can be a flexible and efficient way to play video games. With the gaming market always growing as time goes, we’ll just have to wait and see how cloud gaming will play out in the future. Cloud gaming’s potential can be massive if utilized to its fullest in the future and may change the industry.
